"Positive Experience at Chapel Allerton (Ward 4), Leeds"

About: Chapel Allerton Hospital

(as the patient),

3 weeks ago I was having an operation at Chapel Allerton orthopaedic dept. to have a plate on my collar bone, which had not healed after an accident last September. After having this procedure previously described as "dangerous and risky" I was naturally very nervous, especially about the risks of infection.

Now I am a very fussy person and something of a perfectionist and expect high standards in all things (I have fallen out with many tradesmen who have done work for me because of their poor standards). Having worked for Yorkshire Water in the past I also put a high value on professionalism, good customer service and experience.

I did have cause to complain about the delay in leading up to treating my problem and this is ongoing, but I have to say the following about Chapel Allerton (at least Ward 4 where I was treated):

The ward was clean and pleasant. I watched the attention to cleaning and changing beds. Sister made sure this was done to very high standards. I watched the cleaner even dusting the top of the rails of the 'privacy' curtains.

The nursing staff were friendly, attentive, professional, knowledgeable and kind.

The admission process was efficient and I was only there from 7am Wednesday to 10am Thursday. I had no problems with infection afterwards.

Standards and care in all hospitals should be like this. When you are feeling vulnerable and worried it goes a long way to giving you confidence.

I would like to thank the staff in ward 4. I was impressed with your standards and 'humanity'. You are all lovely people! Be proud of the work you do and your standards of professionalism.
