"My experience as a student nurse"

About: South West London And St George's Mental Health NHS Trust

(as a student nurse),

First Ward: The staff are very compassionate and innovative in terms of using current evidence based therapies such as reminiscence therapies. However, I feel there wasn’t enough staff to meet patient’s needs. Additionally, I feel risk wasn’t always minimised, for example leaving SU who are at risk of falls in the dinning room by themselves I feel to minimise risk there should be staff allocated for each room of the ward.

Aquarius: A strong Manager who is very supportive and passionate about working with child and adolescents with MH problems. I always felt supported as student nurse by the manager and the nursing team. The team is very forward thinking in terms of applying evidence base research into practice such as DBT and family interventions.

Response from Jane Healey, Patient Experience Lead, Governance, South West London and St George's Mental Health Trust

Dear Dinrf7,

My name is Jane and I am one of the Patient Experience Leads for the Trust. Many thanks for taking the time to share your experiences as a student nurse on placement. It is always good to gather the thoughts of as many people as possible on our services which then enables us to learn, improve, and make changes where necessary.

I have passed your thoughts onto the staff in the departments you have mentioned and would like to wish you well in your continuing studies.

Kind regards
