I went into A and E in considerable pain on Thursday evening. Was seen right away where nurses tried to alleviate pain with morphine etc while I had other tests. A very frightened uncomfortable woman was given the utmost care professionaly and with humanity. I was then taken down to the Surgical Investigations Unit where I spent a few nights and had further tests. The surgeon removed my gall bladder Saturday morning and after spending the night in Barrington Ward I am now home. A little tender but hopefully those awful painful episodes over. Mulling over my experience of a much maligned NHS I have nothing but praise and admiration and grateful thanks to every member of staff I encountered from cleaner, porter, nurses, anaesthetist doctors and surgeons. All worked together in their various teams with great humour to keep me informed of what was going to happen, alleviate my fears and provide the blessed pain relief. Thank you Mustrove Park and by the way.......surprising the number of Doctors working extremely long hours at weekends!!!! (Tongue in cheek)
