"Visiting to Minor Injuries Unit"

About: Stamford & Rutland Hospital

I recently had to take my child to the minor injuries unit at Stamford for a suspected fracture.

The whole experience was fantastic.

We were seen within minutes, every member of staff (reception, triage, radiographer, plaster nurse) was kind and really patient with both the injured child and the (noisy and boisterous!) non-injured sibling.

We were diagnosed and treated quickly and home within two hours.

Such a contrast to my experience in Peterborough's A&E last year when I had the misfortune to attend on a Saturday night with 2 year old having a fit after a head injury.

On that occasion we were left waiting for hours to see a consultant in a reception area smelling of vomit, as clearly stressed and under-resourced staff struggled to cope with the stream of mindless idiots who put themselves in A&E after too much alcohol.

I shall hope that from now on my children only injur themselves on during week days so we can go to Stamford!
