Visited endocrinology with regards to my Graves disease . Saw a consultant I had previously seen privately at Thornbury Hospital and the difference in attentiveness was more than obvious. An over all pleasant but the expectation to understand the course of treatment fully was a bit patronising. No time was taken by the Dr to explain what is happening to my thyroid in lamens terms given that I am not an expert and may need it explaining to me again. I was just expected to understand fully following a previous consultation I attended. The consultant was too eager to up my dosage and supply me with more medication to control my symptoms as opposed to controlling it with the exact correct medication needed. on the whole I was with my consultant for a meager 2 mins , leaving with a sense of achieving nothing other than knowing that I needed to fill myself with more drugs. I understand that the NHS is understaffed and to satisfy everybody fully is an impossible task given the influx of patients that they see but we as patients are not doctors specialising in our ailments so to be made to feel stupid for not knowing fully what is happening is extremely unacceptable. Private or NHS I feel that I wouldn't want to see that consultant again. As mentioned , overall a nice person but tends to disassociate from us folk that have little money and are forced to go NHS and encourages you to go NHS if they feel that you cannot afford to go private.
"little or no empathy from staff"
