"Unexpected visit to Scarborough Hospital"

After a nice day in Scarborough on Sunday 2nd August, with my daughter and the grandchildren, my husband and I were about ready to head for home, but as I made for the front door I tripped over a low table and went flying; landing very hard on the laminate floor.

Everyone rushed to help, but it was excruciating to try to stand and it was obvious from the bulge in my side, I had done something rather serious!

We called an ambulance, which actually took a very long time to arrive; eventually I headed off to the Hospital and after necessary tests and X-rays I was on Holly Ward.

The consultant told me that I had a fracture and in their view I needed a total hip replacement.

I went for surgery on Monday afternoon 3rd August; came round and actually was able to take a few steps.

The nursing staff, the consultant and team including the anaesthetist, were nothing short of brilliant and I simply cannot praise them enough.

I mention the anaesthetist in particular, because I was very rude to them; never having had a spinal injection before, I was convinced it couldn't be done.

They proved me wrong, and I unreservedly apologise!

Every single person was pleasant and caring and their attention was so much appreciated.

Every detail was covered including aids for mobility at home etc. Thank you Scarborough Hospital and Holly Ward very very much.
