"Polite and friendly receptionist"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Polite and friendly receptionist

What could be improved

politeness of doctor. I went to A&E after being referred by walk in centre in derby I had nut wedged inside side wall of throat which was inflamed and painful. walk in centre said they did not have the equipment to be able to properly locate it or remove it so sent me to A&E after waiting 2 hours to see a doctor I was told by the doctor after a very brief look in the back of my throat that it was completely normal no swelling and he " wasn't going to waste his time on a Friday night with something that was not life threatening"... it was Saturday. He had also asked "why did you even go to the walk in centre" to which I replied "My throat was inflamed and swollen due to a nut being inside the side wall of my throat" he then said " no what symptoms did you have" I replied pointing out that it had been painful which he still did not seem to want to believe. he told me that "if you have a pain in your hand for example and I were to look at it and your hand looks completely normal then there is to my knowledge nothing wrong" this confused me slightly as internal injuries or broken bones cannot me seen without an X-ray or a scan for example in the same way that this could not be seen easily without a camera or optical fibre. Myself and two others had both seen the very head of the nut sticking out however it was in a very difficult position and he would not have seen it with the very brief examining he gave with a torch as my tongue had to be positioned very carefully to see the small opening. Overall I found him very rude and after him telling me he would not look further with any other equipment I asked if I could see another doctor. he replied by saying "I believe there is another hospital in Burton"

Anything else?

I do not know the name of this doctor as I was so angry at the way he treated me I did not think to ask before I left. He worked at derby royal, I believe in the ENT department. If possible I would like this doctor identified and the information above to be sent as a complaint regarding his behaviour and professionalism
