"Outstanding care and support"

About: Wycombe Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had my ruptured Achilles tendon operation at Stoke Mandeville hospital and chose to have follow-up sessions at Wycombe General Hospital, as this was closer to my home and more convenient for me to go there. A week later I received details of my appointment and also a text message to serve as a reminder the day before, so no chance of an error.

I waited in the Orthopaedic waiting room for a short while and was called in, on time, by Nurse Sam Brown. Like all the staff I have encountered she was friendly, caring and very professional and I knew I was in good hands. She explained the procedure to me and how I was to use the boot I was given. She ensured I had understood all the information she had given me and thoroughly explained the dangers and problems I would encounter if I did not follow this. When I left I knew everything I needed to know to help with a speedy and successful return to full health. She also gave me a mobile number which I was to call in the event of any problems. Nothing was too much trouble.

Mr Shibu Krishnan, the Consultant who operated on me, then came to see me. He was very cheerful, kind and positive. He gave me clear details of my recovery procedure, he answered my many questions and I felt confident that my recovery would be a complete success. My healthcare was obviously important to him and I felt good as a result of this. I am the sort of person who needs to know reasons why and he gave these willingly and patiently. How things have changed over the years!

Finally, I liken hospital waiting times to motorway traffic jams. Sometimes we have to wait two hours, other times we wait only twenty minutes. That’s life. We all become frustrated, some become angry, but I know from experience that we can always expect and we will receive outstanding care and support from all the hardworking and professional members of our Bucks Healthcare workforce. Many thanks to you all.
