"First time in Hospital"

About: Torbay Hospital

I was admitted to Hospital by my GP who was concerned after a blood test. I was very apprehensive being my first stay in Hospital. After the excruciating pain I had been getting before hand I was more than keen to get things sorted out. Going to A&E was a little traumatic - & it was clear to see how much strain that department is under. After a 2 hr wait I was seen by a nurse who did checks & explained they were worried about pancreatitis ? I was taken up to Cromie ward & told to make myself comfortable on a comfortable clean bed. The staff Doctors- Nurses, Inc cleaning & meal staff were excellent - & really opened my eyes how good our National Health Service is - considering the lack of funding & pressure it is under! I spent 2 nights & was treated with care & respect. They are still trying to find a cause for my pain which comes out of the blue - still a bit of a mystery? I certainly won't be worried if I have to go back in ! Excellent Hospital & care - thank you!

Dear Anonymous,

Thank you for your feedback and I am pleased that in the main it was a positive experience, A&E departments across England are under huge amounts of pressure and we are taking steps to tackle this working with the hospital to understand the pressures as best we can. I would hope that in the future, the experience is better.

I was really pleased to hear that the care and attention you received on Cromie Ward was Excellent and I know that they will be really pleased to hear your feedback which I will pass on to them.

I am glad that your first experience of a hospital stay was good and that you wouldn’t be worried if you had to go back, that is after all what we aim for. I hope that clinicians get to the bottom of what is causing your pain as soon as possible and that you make a steady recovery.

If you would like to give any further feedback, or discuss your comments in greater detail, please do not hesitate to contact me or a member of my team, you can call: 01803 652 578 or email: patientfeedback.sdtccg@nhs.net.

Best wishes

Sam
