"Very positive experience and kind and professional..."

About: King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill)

I was referred yesterday to King's College by my GP as I'm 8 weeks pregnant and suffered from abdominal pain. I was very sceptical about going to A&e after a bad experience three years ago. The pre assessment nurse was rather unpleasant and made a silly comment about my symptoms being just normal pregnancy ones. I understand that they see and hear a lot during their shifts but there is no need for spiteful comments. The second nurse who did the assessment was much nicer and professional, advised me to wait to be seen by a doctor but was very polite and reassuring. After an hour and a half I was seen by the doctor, and it was a whole new experience with the A&e for me. This doctor was so polite and really listened to what I had to say. They did all the necessary checks and blood tests and after an hour or so it was all clear and I was good to go. As it's my first pregnancy it's all new to me and I don't know what to expect. Both the nurse and the doctor had a real humane approach to pt and I wish it to all patients (or at least to the humble ones, not the rowdy ones that I also saw during my stay).

Thanks for sharing your comments about your visit to our Emergency Department.

I am sorry to hear that that attitude of all staff wasn't as good as it should have been but pleased also to hear that you received kind and compassionate care from the assessment nurse and doctor.

We take your comments seriously and will feed them back to the team.

I hope that your pregnancy is progressing well.
