"9 week farce waiting for sample results"

About: Burnley General Hospital

I have been slowly losing weight over time, in February i found i had lost over a stone in weight, and had the usual blood test , liver, kidneys etc at my local gp practice. The results came back pretty quick and were clear, great news but no answer to my weight loss. I was prescribed special high calorie 'milk shakes' but sweated those out every night 2 weeks after i started drinking them and was referred to a dietition to show me how to maximise my my food intake healthily. Still no weight increase, i would put 3 or 4 lbs on and lose it so i am constantly stuck at 8 stone !.my gp referred me for a c.t scan at this hospital, radiology rang me within a week for my scan, excellent ! I saw a entorologist?, an excellent, very thorough dr. My scan was clear, thank goodness. This doctor took some more blood for different tests and said i needed a camera down into my stomach for biopsies. I was also given 2 sample tubes for my stool and urine samples which i returned the next day to my local gp for delivery to wherever they go. Nightmare begins !. While my samples are away being anylised i recieve a phone call a week later, end of may, asking if i can arrive next day at Burnley for my stomach biopsies, great. I arrive next day and have it done, and am told i will be seeing a different doctor for my results as my original one is retiring. Thats ok i thought to myself. 3 weeks after my stool and urine samples were taken i rang original dr's secretary for my results, they say 'the results can take up to 4 weeks and the samples went to Wythenshawe' . I ring back 2 weeks later, and was told this time ' yes they have been a while have'nt they, i will ring you back'. 5 weeks for stool and urine samples seem a long time, ii thought!. Secretary rings me back saying your samples havent been seen, Wythenshawe cant trace them, i will send you a stool sample bottle, it does'nt matter about the urine one, your blood tests and biopsy results are here and i've showed them to the dr (the one i was told had retired!). If they had checked for the results after 3 weeks they could have saved 2 of the 5 weeks! I send in another stool sample, ring up weeks later, late july now, still weigh 8 stone 2, stand in secretary says no stool sample back, they also noticed that my original samples had been on screen for the last 3 weeks and had the cheek to say my gp should have seen it, talk about passing the book! They could see it but could'nt access it as they were meant for my specialist !. At least the stand-in secretary spotted my original results. I told them i rang Wythenshawe labs, they never heard of me and results usually take 48 hours, not endless weeks, they said the same at Blackburn, so whats been going on. I'm really upset and mad to say the least!. Finally, i was rang back, same day and offered an appointment for this week, with a different dr because the original 1 has retired, again. It all went so smoothly 'till i gave my samples in and took 9 weeks to sort them
