"Total dissatisfaction"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

Further to my review of 26 July (bed management) my husband was again packed up and ready to move to Grenville ward and again waited a few hours before beng told he would not be going. I overheard discussion about him, which I should not have done. The nurses station was right outside the side room he was in and so I went out and introduced myself. An apology was forthcoming. I reported his bathroom needed urgent attention and 2 hours later when we left the ward this hand not been seen to. The toilet was unusable and as he was doubly incontinent at the time this was not acceptable. The rest of the side room had not been cleaned for 2 days Finally we were moved to Wheal Prosper ward and thought oh joy, a lovely room, lovely nurses. One nurse on Wheal Coates interrupted me when I approached the doctor saying "a family in there (ward) has been waiting a very long time to see the doctor" I had waited 5days! H ow dare they - this was a staff nurse. I had already reported some unkind comments from night nurses. However our joy was short lived. The next day y husband was discharged by a consultant and doctor he had never seen before. He had been off the saline drip for 2 days but was put on a glucose drip for the night - was this simply to give him enough of a lift to think he was able to go home? He spent an exhausted weekend and I then asked for a doctors visit and he was given medication for the condition in his mouth, which was preventing him from eating. Indeed he has not eaten properly for over 3 weeks now and is still on Complan, at my instigation. No dietary advice was given and he was discharged without a letter and to date I have still not had a letter, neither has his GP. I had to arrange for district nurses to come and take bloods at home. I am extremely unhappy about the lack of treatment, advice and counselling and am taking this up with PALS. Nothing would induce me to go to Treliske for treatment and I am not sure how I am going to get my 79 year old husband there next week for scans. Advice on a possible operation would be welcome as would some advice on home care. No information or advice has been forthcoming to date. Question 4 below asks which dept he was in. Well, with kidney failure he was in Ear, Nose and Throat. I think that says it all.
