"Why do midwives not accept someone is in labour?"

About: Scunthorpe General Hospital

When I had my third child I went in as I was having painful regular contractions. The midwife who saw me was so dismissive and told me to go home. In the end I pretty much refused so was sent to sit in the day room. I asked my husband to fetch a midwife twice and both times I was told to go home. I felt desperate for someone to help me. Next my waters popped and I asked for a midwife again. I was quickly rushed to the delivery suite where I didn't even get laid on the bed before I delivered my son with no pain relief. If I ever was to have another child it will not be in scunthorpe hospital. The midwife who "delivered" my son had just delivered a baby in the car park because the poor girl had been sent home. i stayed in that night, my buzzer was ignored all night, I felt I was unwelcome and the staff were rude. Would I recommend this hospital? Absolutely not.

Hello Kirstin, congratulations on the birth of your baby, although I'm sorry to hear your experience at SGH was not a positive one. This feedback has been shared with the maternity team and manager and you are welcome to contact our patient advice and liaison team if you would like the matter to be looked into.

Best wishes,

Sarah Mainprize
