"Plane Tree Centre - Removal of cyst"

About: Whipps Cross University Hospital

I'd been suffering from the effects of a sebaceous cyst on my scalp for the past several months. I was referred to Whipps Cross Hospital for a pre-consultation by my GP. Although the referral took 2 months to come through I knew the consultant would be my best bet to get this seen to as soon as possible from past experience. A month went past and I didn't receive anything yet the symptoms of the cyst kept on getting worse as time went on. This prompted me to ring Whipps Cross Hospital to see if I was to receive an appointment and it turned out they had old contact details (my fault!). Anyway, they were trying to get in touch to give me an appointment only a month after my pre-consultation for the 4th August (today!). The appointment was for 12pm, I arrived early at 11:45am as I'd rather be early than late. I was told to get ready for prep at 12pm exactly. I was taken to the ward, had all the usual checks performed (blood pressure, temperature, etc) and as I was a local anaesthetic patient I was to be seen to last - makes sense considering it takes longer for general anaesthetic patients to come around. Nonetheless, I had a Staff Nurse looking after me and running around keeping all the patients satisfied. I cannot say enough good things about this Nurse so I shall say if every nurse was as efficient and attentative as this the NHS would be an amazing place! I was seen to at 3:00pm. The local anaesthetic was administered by a doctor who was as gentle as can be and other than feeling the first needle being inserted, I did not feel the slightest bit of pain - very gentle, precise and thorough. I was then taken in to the theatre where I met a number of nurses, whose names I could not recall, except for one Nurse who constantly kept a very light mood in the theatre through a fantastic sense of humour and banter. This nurse made me feel comfortable as can be as well as their other colleague nurse. During the whole procedure, the extent to how carefully the anaesthetic was administered really came in to its own as I could not feel a thing which was quite contrary to what I had experienced in the past with other surgery with local anaesthetic. In summary, I cannot say enough nice things about Nurses, Doctors and their whole team. If I had to go under the knife again, I would hope it was with doctors and nurses of their calibre.
