I have to say I feel rather disappointed by my antenatal care. At my booking appointment at 8 weeks I was assigned a 'named' midwife but told that she was off on long term sick leave and I may not see her at any point - sure enough I have seen lots of different midwives, rarely the same person twice, 'my' named midwife came back for one appointment only to go off again. I understand that when people go off they have to be covered but knowing she wasn't expected back why couldn't I be allocated to someone else by name? or at least see the same person twice? !
My appointments (all of which have been running 20+ minutes late) have felt rushed and because there is no continuity of care and I see someone different every time I'm told some information many times and other information seems to be entirely lacking (or I have to prompt for it).
Being pregnant (first baby) is an emotional and personal process and surely the point of having a named midwife is to improve care and provide continuity. It's disappointing this hasn't happened and as a result I feel let down rather than supported.
