"Outstanding Care and Attention"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

Prior to being admitted on 8th July for a serious brain operation, I had to have 2 MRI scans and 2 CT scans. I thought I would need to use my private medical cover to avoid excessive waiting but Queens were brilliant at generating appointments - no more than a 7 day wait after first being told I needed each scan which were all done within 10 minutes of the advised appointment time. When I came in for surgery, waiting time was minimal. The consultant came to see me to explain the whole procedure which in the end, lasted for just under 7 hours. I spent the night and following day until 16:00 in HDU on the ground floor and had my first experience of the amazing nursing care that characterised my entire stay. Full marks to my day nurse, who was so reassuring and responsive. OK – I know that the nursing requirement for HDU/Intensive Care is greater than if I had an in-growing toenail removed but I can only comment on my direct experiences. I was then transferred to a specialist neurosurgical ward and I was in a 4 bed ward with patients far worse than me. Do I think I received any less care because of that? Absolutely not. From the minute I arrived, the care was yet again unbelievable. They are just amazing people. Even on an absolute scale which goes from zero to perfection, I just cannot fault them. And because I could see what they were doing for my fellow inmates, I just felt in awe of such dedication and application. I would rather have not needed surgery at all but this has been a most amazing experience with the NHS in general and Queens in particular that I believe surpasses anything I’ve had previously - even when I was a private patient for 2 craniotomy operations in 1988 and 1992. Every interaction I have had with Queens staff at all levels has been exemplary – not a word I throw about carelessly. Thanks to everyone involved in my care from start to finish - I can’t praise you highly enough

Hearing about the care you received at our hospital makes me incredibly proud to be Chief Nurse. It’s fantastic to know that throughout your journey at our hospital, you had a good experience across the board. It’s important for us to receive feedback and the team will be heartened to know you felt this way. Yours sincerely Wendy Matthews Interim Chief Nurse
