"Breast Unit and Day Surgery Unit"

About: Kettering General Hospital

I was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma in Situ following a routine mammogram in June 2015. From the very first visit to the Breast Unit for a second mammogram, and biopsy, through to the day surgery and follow-up appointment, I have been treated with compassion, care, and understanding. A breast cancer diagnosis is frightening, but the breast care nurses guided me through all parts of the treatment procedure and their kindness, professional support and just being a listening ear have made this traumatic time in my life bearable. The radiologists and the team of HCA's were marvellous, again ensuring that I was fully informed all the way through the mammograms to locate the cancer exactly and pinpoint for surgery. They made this uncomfortable procedure less frightening. The day surgery unit is a model of quiet efficiency and professionalism. My nurse for the surgery was excellent. And what can I say about surgeon, they were marvellous all the way from diagnosis through to my follow up appointment on the 30th July. Their calm reassurance and wonderful sense of humour really helped me. I was blessed to be in their care. I now have to have radiotherapy, but that's part of the end-to-end care. Thank you everyone who looked after me. Its not pleasant to get a cancer diagnosis, but the team at Kettering worked hard to reassure me all the way through. Sue Wright
