Following a cycle crash I was transferred from Penzance to RCHT for surgery. The first person I met was a young doctor who had assesses me in A&E who said 'Welcome to Trauma'. A nice touch. It was immediately apparent that the ward was at or nearly at capacity and that I was with some very sick patients. The nurses settled me in, checked on my pain and monitored me through the night. I was woken early for a light early breakfast and helped to the toilet. The nurses were obviously very busy with one particularly demanding patient and they continued to ensure my respect and dignity despite being busy prior to handover. The day shift carried on this excellent work and I had a little light banter with the Mitee food handler because I was nil by mouth. Again a nice touch. My transfer to Hayle by the TAPS service was arranged efficiently and with dignity by the nurses.
