After suffering from hours of severe headache, drowsiness, shivering and high temp i attended the out of hours service (which i was advised to by 111) On arrival a receptionist asked questions and handed a 'yellow' card to me to give to another member of staff who again asked the same questions and told me to take a seat. I waited over 3 hours in complete agony until i was called by a GP, as soon as the GP saw my state he was conserned i may have meningitus and sent me into the emergency unit where they effectively treated me. My consern is why was i ranked as 'un urgent' by a reception staff and made to wait in agony for over 3 hours although i visibly at the time looked unwell? The doctor transfered me over within 3 minutes to the urgent care section but an untrained individual screened me and thought it was fine for me to wait. This is an unsafe way of working with patients who are at risk. The hospital needs to change the 'old school' way of working and update their service to ensure the safety of their users.
