"5 star hospital experience"

About: St Michael's Hospital (Hayle)

Following a cycle accident I was originally admitted to Treliske for two hand operations. The operations coordinator found there was a theatre slot in Hayle and I was transferred there by the excellent TAPS volunteer driver scheme. The admission into St Michael's was lovely. The nurses cared for me, we're very attentive and put me in St Joseph's ward to rest at the earliest opportunity. Then I learned that because I was at Hayle the procedure would be complete in one operation. The anaesthetists explained the nerve block procedure in terms that I understood and put my mind at rest. This was my first operation and the porter took a great deal of time and care to relax me on the journey to theatre and whilst waiting to go in. I was awake or nearly awake throughout the operation and the anaetheistists and surgeon reassured me throughout. I was quickly transferred to the ward and the nurses set about my pain management straight away. They used just enough assertiveness to make sure I played my part in pain management understanding that I was under the effects of strong sedatives. They visited me regularly to make observations and see how I was getting on. The bell was always answered in a prompt, efficient and calm manner. The nurses helped me dress and undress for showers etc taking care of my dignity and theirs. I would like to make a special mention of the Mitie staff who always visited me with a smile and made a lovely cup of tea. The food was fine and cleared away quickly. When I was asleep they left me alone. All in all I think that the excellent care in St Michael's Hospital Hayle and St. Joseph's ward led to a quicker discharge and better recovery
