About: New Cross Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Heart And Lung Centre

The total professionalism of the surgeon and his entire team. The exceptional standard of nursing care and communication, involvement and being made to feel very secure from admittance to discharge. Going into hospital for a major op is a scary prospect but my fears were unfounded. Overall an unbelievably positive experience that was honestly not painfull, OK some mild discomfort which was relieved by paracetamol which I do not think I really needed but accepted as a precaution. Please note I am not one of those people with a high pain threshold, I am actually a total wimp if I am feeling anything more than minor discomfort or even minor discomfort that is persistant, I like to feel comfortable. The beds on the ward are the latest remote control type which were very nice and comfortable

What could be improved

The only improvement I can think of is possibly more physio resource to increase post op mobility day after the op as was keen to be as mobile as possible but was limited to just a couple of walks. Not possible to walk unaided due to help required to move around with trailing wires etc.

Anything else?

There were some refurbishment taking place in one unit and nurses were having to move patients around more than normal but this was done very well and it must have been very difficult and put a lot of pressure on the nurses but they did not complain and were 100% patient centric.
