I booked my appointment through the Choose and Book scheme. I needed an appointment for ophthalmology dept. I received a letter to say that a clinical triage team had assessed my referral letter and decided to refer me to a secondary care consultant. I was seen on time, by a charming Dr. only to be told that they would need to refer me to their colleague who specialised in my condition - macular degeneration - their expertise was with babies and children. My question is why refer a 63 yr old lady to a Dr who specialises in children? It was a waste of their time and mine! If my referral letter had been triaged correctly, it would not of been a wasted appointment! I am really unhappy about making this complaint because I believe I am very fortunate to receive the medical services of the NHS., but such inefficiency is wasting the Health Service's resources.
