"Urology referral"

About: Colchester General Hospital

Following very worrying symptoms my doctor requested a referral for me to Urology and I receive the appointment letter the next day! The appointment was for a cystoscopy in Urology Day Care preceded by an ultrasound and an X-ray (to be performed with a full bladder - ouch). As always I arrived early, but was seen early, and had both ultrasound and X-ray within 15 to 20 minutes - both of which were performed quickly and efficiently by staff who were reassuring and pleasant. This meant I booked in to the Day Care unit early and was again seen promptly by an extremely friendly and helpful nurse. The cystoscopy was performed quickly, painlessly and informatively by the Urologist and attendant nurse, both of whom were also very informative and reassuring (they even let me watch the exploration)! To my immense relief this proved that the suspected cause of my problems was not in my bladder, and that was all clear. I was told I'd receive a letter allocating me an appointment for another scan (kidneys I presume), and I'm sure that experience will prove to be equally efficient. Further ongoing specimen tests were also arranged, and I feel not only relieved that the worst possibility had been eliminated, but that my health and the current problems will continue to be monitored and investigated in need. I am 69 years old, and there was certainly no hint of the 'ageism' frequently implied in the media. My profound thanks to all concerned.
