"No explanations given"

About: King George Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a relative),

A member of staff made a phone call to us and lied about reason for change of consultant. She said he didn't have space to see my husband so he would see another consultant instead. No it was not, it was because the consultant was apparently kidney cancer expert. No-one had the courtesy to say my husband's cancer had spread.

Letter received for bone scan appointment, no explanation given in a phone call. Technician then told my husband he had two other scans booked, MRI and CT, we knew nothing about these, no letters received or phone calls explaining this. Basically everyone from the MDT meeting knew my husband had more than bladder cancer, he had prostate cancer that had spread, but no-one bothered to tell us.

8 weeks from first TURBT before outpatient appt to give us the bad news. 10weeks from second surgery for next appt. No contact at all. CNS just sent PSA blood test for, - no explanation again. CNS spent 10 minutes explaining why they were short staffed rather than helping us with information and barely managed to give us a new PSA test form. CNS said she would post PSA test form, still waiting two weeks later. CNS staff were not returning phone calls, gave up on leaving messages.

First consultant could not do simple DRE to check on prostate so did not bother to order CT scan or any other tests such as PSA test as priority before first TURBT two weeks later so no-one knew my husband already had prostate cancer. First CT scan was four weeks after first TURBT.
