What I liked
With one exception nurses, doctors and anciliary staff encountered in EAU were friendly, courteous and treated me with respect. Diagnoses and care were explained carefully and relevant questions were answered clearly without being patronising and clarified where required. EAU consultant explained carefully and asked if I had any questions.
What could be improved
Final consultation was with Respiratory Consultant. Unfortunately his manner was patronising and unhelpful. He did not explain terms he used and when asked repeatedly to do so inferred that I should just accept his treatment without question and stated that I would need to study interpretation of chest X-rays for 4 years (sic) to understand.
Fortunately when I was better I found answers via the internet and my GP. I have no reason to doubt his ability to diagnose and treat but surely he should realise the importance of communication, involvement and reassurance in his patients’ recovery. Hoping that they are too ill to argue is not a very productive approach.
