"i had a left hemi-thyroidectomy."

About: Royal Preston Hospital

I had a left hemi-thyroidectomy. My partner discovered the lump on my neck, with that I booked in at the GP who referred me for an ultrasound the following week. The week after that, I had a biopsy with same day results and met the Consultant who, after informing me that my results had come back as 'Thy 3' indicating a likelihood/possibility of malignancy, went through the procedure(operation) I would be having before signing the consent form. I also found out the Consultant was in a band, like myself! I had my pre-op in Preston a few weeks later then the operation the following week. It was a same day operation -we went in at 7:30 in the morning and got home at 7pm, my partner was allowed to stay throughout... the op went really well but the lump which was thought to be 7cmx7xmx4cm was even bigger than expected so they had to dig deep in all directions and do a lot of tugging meaning a lot of internal bruising, the scar however was quite small and cosmetically pleasing! It took a lot longer than they thought they said 1andhalf hours but took 3 due to the size but there were no complications....more good news is I still sounded like me! No hoarseness just a little difficulty swallowing in that I needed to bend forward but that said still able to eat what I normally would just a little slower....I went back after three weeks for the lump analysis and thankfully all was clear, it was an adenoma weighing 68g(double what expected) but no malignant cells present. I would highly recommend this Consultant.
