"Resuscitation Saturday July 2015"

About: Birmingham Children's Hospital

My son was rushed to resuscitation on a Saturday afternoon after being found in a park having a fit. I arrived to find him being attended by 1st response who in turn were waiting for an ambulance to arrive. Knowing medical conditions and terminology I bombarded them with questions. Despite this the paramedics were professional calm clear and understanding. During the whole 7 hours I was kept fully informed of everything that was happening with my sons treatment including what was expected to be happening next/at each stage including the time duration. This is invaluable to a relative/carer etc as there is nothing worse than 'not knowing' and sitting waiting worrying. In addition the whole team treated me with respect and were non judgemental. The doctors were fantastic. They clearly picked up that I was extremely anxious about not knowing what happened in the 1 &1/2 hrs my son had been in the park prior to being found unresponsive. In the time that I left the room they had spoken to my son and established that he was conscious throughout and was not assaulted etc. I hadn't spoke to the staff about my concerns as I was focusing on the immediate In addition every member of staff including the lovely professional on reception and the security guard who helped me book a taxi where honestly fantastic. I have chosen to write this review 4 days after the admission to ensure an impartial non emotional genuine review Please ensure this feedback is relayed to all staff

First of all I'd like to say I hope your son is making a good recovery, and you too from what was clearly a very worrying experience. It is lovely to hear that you were both so well cared for by everyone involved, felt supported and kept fully informed at such an anxious time. I will ensure it is shared with all the staff teams involved, who I know will be delighted to receive it, it genuinely does make a difference for them to hear directly from our patients and families when they have provided such excellent care. Thank you again and please pass on our best wishes for a continued recovery to your son. With kind regards, Janette Vyse Deputy head of Nursing and Patient Experience Lead
