"I've lost my confidence to walk outside"

About: Davidson Cottage Hospital Rainbow Services

(as a service user),

I get the rainbow girls three days a week to help me with my shower and get dressed. Everything is alright, they are always very obliging. If I’m not well and don’t want a shower then I don’t have to and they’ll ask if they can do anything else instead.

I’ve got lots of family to help at weekends and to take me shopping. I need this because I’ve lost my confidence to walk outside. I had a heart attack and stroke 2 years ago. I had to learn to walk again as was in hospital for four months. I used to go for physio at Davidson hospital, it was really helpful but I feel my walking has now got worse. I’ve had a few falls recently when I’ve had to press my alarm button to get someone to come and help. I bought a walker to help me but my daughter thinks I walk too far away from it and I feel quite nervous when I use it.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear grvn22,

You have to be admired for your strength, you have come such a long way since your heart attack and strokes. I was wondering if you have had a Physiotherapist or an OT review recently. If you have not it may be worth talking to your GP again. A review and some support may help you at this time. Thank you for telling us your story. I will be very happy to share it with the physiotherapy team.

Kind regards,

Eunice
