"Great Staff But...."

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

I was referred to the Boothroyd Centre by my consultant at Pinderfields. All the staff I encountered from arriving to leaving were great.(The receptionist, nurses, anaesthetist and consultant.) On a previous visit here a few years ago,I was upset that a nurse came into the communal waiting area, which had a mix of male and female patients, and discussed my operation and took my personal details, including details about my last menstrual period .I felt that this was extremely bad practice, and was dreading this next visit. However, things could not have been more different.I was treated with dignity and respect by all staff at the Boothroyd unit. Unfortunately the experience was marred by the fact that whilst I had booked into the Boothroyd unit,my operation was for some unknown reason, not to take place here, but in the operating theatre in the main part of the hospital. This meant that I had to endure a humiliating walk along numerous corridors and in a lift with members of the public getting in and out.All this whilst wearing two theatre gowns,(one of which was worn in reverse to hide my behind),paper knickers and a pair of slippers. I was completely mortified, and even more stressed out by the time I reached the operating theatre. What a shame that the great attitude shown by all the staff was let down by such a bad practice.
