"A & E visit"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

Had to attend A & E today with my daughter who had fallen at school and injured her wrist. Check in was a little confusing as you have to see the triage nurse to the side of reception but you have to figure that out. Once that was understood all the staff were fine. We didn't have to wait too long and all went smoothly. Luckily all was fine with my daughters wrist and the Dr examined it thoroughly. The waiting area was clean. It was difficult to hear the nurse/Dr calling you to be seen. That was maybe the only issue. We've been to this hospital as inpatient with my daughter before (2 yrs ago) and the staff on the children's ward were fantastic. We were very happy with all aspects of her care on that occasion.

Great to see that your daughter was well looked after in the emergency department and I'm glad you found it clean. Our department was designed way back in the late 1970's - and since it opened in 1984 it's had a couple of minor re-designs but nothing large scale. We're planning to develop it in the next few years to solve many of the points you raise about triage and being able to hear. There will also be a separate area for children's assessment, which I'm sure you'll be pleased to hear. I'll make sure our ED team see you post and thanks for taking the time - I hope your daughter is fully fit again after her mis-hap - best wishes Sarah Turner-Saint, head of communications
