"Giving birth was traumatic"

About: University College Hospital

I am all for natural child birth, but when a 16 year old is in agony for 1 week, due to a 9lb 9oz baby lying back to back on my size 6 body, and labour being painfully slow, on friday/saturday I was 1cm dilated by monday night only 4 or maybe 5cm. Then my mum noticed spots of blood not from me, and cleaned it up, the last midwife did what I expressly asked them not to do. Then i had my legs up in stirrups whilst the doctor took blood from my baby in utero, twice, judging by the look on the doctors face was trying to pull a turkey out of a bird. then they flung the doors open leaving me hanging there like peice of meat, my mum says she still cries about that. The doctor did not read my notes and see that I was in pain for days before hand and labour from the friday/saturday and it was monday/tuesday now, baby was borderline distressed they said and I had the option of carrying on as I was or have an emergency section. Then on the ward, I think due to my age, because a lot of older people think they can speak to me like a dog, the midwife pokes me awake with her finger and demands I "take this" I say no twice and she says take it or I will get angry. Poked awake with her finger.

Thank you for taking the time to feed back to us. We are very sorry to hear about your recent experience of Maternity Services at UCLH. We would be grateful if you could contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) via pals@uclh.nhs.uk or by calling 020 3447 3042 so that we can look into this.
