N.B. My second experience in Fulwood Hall, for unrelated procedures, this year. Clinical care, nursing and all support services excellent. Having been fully briefed about the operation procedure at previous consultant and pre-op. meetings, in the theatre ante-room I was carefully talked through every step of the preparation and anaesthesia in a no-nonsense way, and informed about the steps to be taken immediately after the operation from leaving the theatre to recovery ward to my own room on the ward. I found this extremely reassuring, giving me full confidence in those who were about to undertake my operation. Subsequent nursing care struck a steady and helpful balance between momitoring and attending to my needs and encouraging self-care and independence towards recovery. Assistance in pain management was professional and effective. Final carefully arranged steps for discharge were slightly marred by uncertain timing for x-ray check and clearance, in my view revealing the need for more careful support and cooperation from that area. Suffering from two separate dietary problems (diabetes and lactose resistance) I would have welcomed a wider menu choice for all meals, though in the event I was grateful to the catering staff, who did their best to work round this limitation for me. Overall a very successful and comfortable experience, and I would not hesitate to recommend Fulwood Hall Hospital to others.
