"Overpriced Car Parking"

About: Southampton General Hospital

After having to wait an agonising six hours in casualty department (was told it would be about 2 and a half on arrival), then another two hours on ward. I am not sure which was the more painful the pain in my face which is still agony or the pain to my wallet £11.10 to park. Many families would find this very difficult to budget for. Although our health service may be free, we have to pay for it with over priced parking and vending machines. It does not pay to be ill.

We were sorry to read of the pain and long wait you had both in the Emergency Department and on the ward. We do hope that the pain you were experiencing has now resolved. We are sorry too that you felt the car parking and vending machines were overpriced. Please be assured that the revenue generated through the car parking fees is used for upkeep and security of the car parks and the remainder used for frontline patient services.
