I stayed on Ward 28 from June 25-27. I was admitted from the LRI after a shocking misdiagnosis by my GP left me feeling very unwell with a high fever and abdominal pain. I was seen first in triage but everyone was very efficient. I was seen by a doctor quickly who was very kind, friendly and efficient and then a kind HCA took care of me from then on. There was a short wait for a bed but the HCA and the qualified nurse and student made sure I was comfortable and kept me updated with what was going on, with good humour and efficiency. My bed was ready at 6.30 and I was quickly seen by the surgical registrar. The staff were busy that night but everything was done efficiently- I was taken up to X-Ray that night and I was told I would have further scans the next day. During my stay on the ward I was constantly in tears. This was due to the fact I suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder due to an absolutely horrific experience at the hands of Leicester General Hospital during a previous stay (this has been dealt with by the gynae dept and my lawyers but the trauma remains) but the staff were never too busy to come and comfort me. The student nurse in particular was absolutely outstanding. They did everything in their power to stop my tears and make me smile and that was very precious. Also the same HCA that was there on admission was also absolutely fantastic. Only niggle I had was that I found my diagnosis out by accident by listening into a bedside handover (Ex HCA so well versed on the intricacies of handovers!) and it would have been nice to be told but hey ho. Also someone forgot to get me to sign the forms for my operation hence me having to do a dash across the city the next day which wasn't ideal either but in the grand scheme of things it could have been worse. The people involved here will likely know who they are and how grateful I was. Now I just have to navigate the operation in the morning...
"Best experience yet.."
