"Frustrated trying to contact Orthodontics Dept.,"

About: Guy's Hospital

After my son had his wisdom teeth extracted we were very satisfied indeed with the service. The dental staff including the nurses, anaesthetist, the dentist and the recovery team were exceptional and extremely attentive. However we have become increasingly frustrated with trying to book a follow up appointment for a brace to be fitted in the Orthodontics Department. On many occasions we have phoned the Orthodontics Department and the phone is never answered. On two occasions the phone has been answered, and we have been put through to Orthodontics the phone call has been cut off! This is very worrying as my son really urgently needs a brace fitting as he temporarily has a chain and stitch attached to his cheek making it difficult to eat and clean his teeth. Also the chain and stitch has repeatedly come loose and has had to be re-attached, which is time consuming to say the least. We urgently need an Orthodontics appointment. Please help. Is there any way we can make sure we get an appointment booked, as this is now urgently required.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are pleased to hear that the operation to extract your son's wisdom teeth went well and the team were very attentive. However, we are concerned that you have been struggling to reach us to book a follow up appointment for your son and that your son's chain and stitch is causing him some problems. We would like to help you resolve this as soon as possible. If you would like to contact out PALS Team they can liaise with the department to arrange an appointment as soon as possible. Our PALS (patient advice and liaison service) can be contacted by telephone 020 7188 8801 or email pals@gstt.nhs.uk
