"Revised opinion"

About: The Royal London Hospital

Further to my recent post 'Very happy with the care and speediness' on 30 June 15, I have changed my opinion somewhat about the medical treatment my partner received. I think It was too early and naive of me to form an opinion about the overall rating of the hospital. I left my earlier post, after the first day of treatment of my partner. Yes, I was happy that my partner was seen within hour of us arriving at the hospital, Yes that most of the hospital staff, nurse and doctors were nice. But the story continue in similar fashion when we had to visit hospital for next 3 days without any relief from pain. At first, on the first day it seem all good after horrible experience we had had at King George Hospital and Queens Hospital. But whichever doctor seen my partner over course of next 3 days had difference opinion about the treatment. As a result, they allowed my partner to suffer almost continuous and acute pain for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Let me state my point here, that we visited hospital on Tuesday, Wednesday and again on Thursday, eventually given follow up appointment for same week saturday. But realising, that doctor allowed constant pain and no relief from infection, We eventually decided to go private. We didnt have any medical insurance, so had to spend money. We went to BUPA cromwell hospital on Friday evening, where she was seen and within 2 hours we walked out of hospital with no pain in her both ears. Furthermore, I am writing this post on 5th day (following Wednesday) and she didnt feel the need to take any painkiller since we walked out of BUPA. Doctors at BUPA were not magician but did the right treatment. They used micro suction to clean her both ears and released pressure, and changed her ear drops. We requested doctors at Royal London Hospital earlier to get her ear cleaned, but they clearly refused to do so (seem to me like that they want to save their cost at the expense of patient suffering). So I give 3 stars to Royal London Hospital and take 2 stars away from my previous rating, due to this unprofesssional experience. On first dy, they allowed a doctor to insert wick in her ear. This Doctor caused so bad pain to my partner due to their inexperience, and when the senior doctor interfered to insert the remaining half of wick, it went all smooth. **Please also note, that this is purely my point of view and does not necessarily represent that of my partner (patient), I am sure she had worse experience, as she continuosly begged doctors to clean her ear, but no one listened to her. We eventually had to pay for what NHS doctor should have done at first place.

We are very sorry to read of your partner’s experience and also of revised opinion on our hospital service. It is sad to hear that you had to result to paying privately for your wife’s treatment and that your wife suffered with pain for so long. Please pass on our apologies to your partner. As with your previous review, we have forwarded your feedback over to the A&E team at The Royal London to see. We value all patient feedback and hope that we can use this to make improvements to our service where needed. If you would like to discuss your concerns further please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at pals@bartshealth.nhs.uk or by calling 020 3594 2040.
