"Overnight stay in Cardiology Ward 2a"

About: Wycombe Hospital

I was referred to Wycombe cardiology department via my GP after having on going issues with my heart. The staff in the cardiology receiving department were pleasant enough although there was a longish wait to be seen, which in itself was not too much of a problem. I was told that I would be kept in for observation and was admitted to ward 2A. The ward staff again were pleasant enough. My main problem with the whole experience was my treatment by doctors who descended around my bed the following morning. They arrived in a pack, spoke about me as though I wasn't there, prescribed medication without explaining what was wrong and why they had prescribed pills, they told me I could go home later that day after completing an exercise treadmill test. The experience in the cardiac assessment day unit for the treadmill test couldn't have been better, lovely staff who explained everything, what a difference in attitude to the doctors on ward 2a. Whilst waiting for my discharge letter and medication, I overheard two of the doctors discussing my discharge letter. I heard them say that they could do more tests but due to my low risk score and NICE guidelines I needed and I quote "kicking out the door"! I didnt ask to go to hospital, I didn't really want to be there and certainly expected to be treated with more respect than I was shown. I realise my on going condition isn't life threatening and that hospitals are busy places often treating very sick people, however doesn't every patient deserve to be shown respect? I am now being referred to John Radcliffe for further tests, I wouldn't want to waste anymore of Wycombe Hospitals time!
