"Accident and emergency"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital

I m afraid to say I hope I never have an emergency and hope I never do , my father was recently admitted via accident and emergency , my dad is a gentleman and lying on a trolley for hours in a corridor is no way to wait for emergency treatment , I could nt believe how bad the situation is there , after the nhs has spent all that money in building the new hospital , patients are in corridors with very little dignity and no privacy . I know that you ll reply with the standard reply to get in touch with pals, but cant see how this is going to help after you have already had lots of complaints and its been in the local newspapers and still people are in corridors . I ve got to say that the doctors and nurses were excellent but I hope that somehow, someone, somewhere sorts the waiting in corridors out.

Dear "Anonymous"

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback about your experience of University Hospitals of North Midlands. As you are aware, the Trust’s primary concern during winter was the safety of patients. As part of our plans to manage high demands on NHS services, the clinical teams worked hard to deal with acute and emergency care such as accidents, medical and surgical emergencies. Hospitals, community providers, NHS commissioners and the ambulance service worked together to manage unprecedented demand for healthcare services.

The high demand for services continues, but the Emergency Department at Royal Stoke University Hospital is becoming much more effective and efficient as our doctors and nurses work hard to ensure that nobody waits for an unacceptable period of time. The number of people waiting for long periods for admission into a hospital bed has dropped dramatically in recent months.

However, we do ask patients, or their families, contact our PALS Team to tell us about their individual experiences. We would encourage you to do so as we learn from each and every patient experience that is shared with the Trust. The PALS Team can be contacted on 01782 676450 or 01782 676455 or by emailing patient.advice@uhns.nhs.uk.

Thank you and best wishes
