"visits to A&E between 11/6/15 and 4/7/15"

About: Tameside General Hospital

Go I was in with 14 yr old daughter on 11/6/15 for sore foot and was in and out from 9.05- 11.45am ( broken ankle) not a problem and no complaints at all. Then came back on 4/7/15 with my mum with bad and swollen foot (injury at work) arrived around 4.30pm. She was on way out by 6.30pm with back cast on due to break in ankle so all was really good then almost out and had chest pains shortness off breath and crying due to chest pain. Readmitted as chest pains ech done at 7pm (no info at all as to what happens next) the nurse left didn't say a word to us as to what happens next or if needs to stay longer. 8.10pm still no word no offer of drink for either my mum or myself no offer of chair for myself or any update so collared a nurse who then said "we're just waiting for a bed for you two people before you though" ( still no offer for any refreshments at all or chair) 9.15pm doctor arrives explains what they found and next steps to take then seems a little shocked that no one informed us there was drinking water close by and no one had offered any information as to what was going on or any refreshments or toast offered in the length of time we had been there. I would like to say thank you to the doctor as they were the most helpful and kind person we had spoken to since readmittance from 6.30pm that night finally leaving at 11pm

We are really sorry you have had cause to raise these concerns. This is not the standard of care expected by the staff in the department. Refreshments should be routinely offered to patients and relatives. I can only apologies that this did not happen during your visit. Once again my sincere apologies for the lack of communication and poor experience you and your family received. If you would like to speak to someone regarding this please contact Head of Nursing for A&E Alice Baxter on 0161 922 5199 or Alice.Baxter@tgh.nhs.uk John Goodenough Director of Nursing
