"Still waiting for an appointment....."

About: Mount Vernon Hospital Site

After a number of appointments with the Spinal Diagnostics Team and a MRI scan I was referred to the Physiotherapy department for treatment. I handed the referral form into the reception desk and was told I would get to see someone in 4 - 6 weeks and that I would get a phone call to confirm the appointment date. I have been waiting 5 weeks and have still not heard anything. I have rung the Physio department only to be told they would call me 1 day before my appointment. I work full time and need to give my employer notice when I have an appointment so to give someone 1 day notice is ridiculous! I was also told that it may be longer than 6 weeks and that I'd just have to wait. I am in a lot of pain and feel very let down by the NHS and Mount Vernon Hospital. I hope when (or if) I get an appointment with a Physiotherapist it is worth the wait and they can help me.

Thank you for your feedback. I can only apologise for the length of the waiting time. Patients are only offered a next day appointment if there is a cancellation otherwise appointments are booked in advance and discussed with the patient to ensure it is suitable for them. If it is not possible to speak to patients directly, they will be partially booked with a letter asking them to ring in to make an appointment, which is again negotiated with the patients. Should you feel that your symptoms have worsened, please contact your GP for an urgent referral.
