"Horrified"

About: Warwick Hospital

I am really saddened by the lack of care and knowledge from the nurses at this hospital. I have recently had an operatio and my records were lost, once they had been found again they immediately went missing again and a nurse had to search for over 40 minutes. This is embarassing as I am supposed to have trust in the NHS but the fact my medical records were lost was not a good sign. Once my consent form was found, nobody understood what operation I was having and they had to ask me so many questions like "why are you here today?" "Where is the problem?" "Is this your first operation?" If they had read my documents it was very clear this was my third operation. It was in black and white on my consent form signed by myself and the surgeon, the nurses should be trained to understand what a medical terms mean, instead they were asking me about it. One nurse actually said "oh yes I think I remember seeing that on embarrassing bodies once.." Very unprofessional. My surgeon was very nice and I have no bad words to say about them, but all the nurses I met prior to my operation had no clue what they were doing and left me waiting for over 3 hours when I was in severe pain. I was very nervous about my operation and the fact nobody could confirm what procedure I was having (over 6 nurses) made me more nervous. All it would of taken would of been for someone to have a quick read of my history. Different story but I went to A + E yesterday due to the post operation pain and again waited 4 hours to be seen. There were many patients clearly in agony and a bad state in the waiting room, however the little kids with twisted ankles get seen before any serious matters. Eventually I was seen and yet again my paperwork was lost! Nobody knew what operation I had (5 days ago!). or understood what the medical term meant and had to ask me to translate it for them. The nurses need training if they do not understand what a condition is, fair enough one or two people might not know , but over 6? Not acceptable. The last time I tried to post a negative review I was told it wasn't valid and true to my own experience. This is very true and I wish I could say it wasn't.

I am very sorry to hear about your experiences. What you have described is not acceptable and we would like the opportunity to investigate what happened during your visits. In order to do this though we will require further details, therefore please could you contact our patient experience team on 01926 600 054. Yours sincerely, Helen Lancaster, Director of Nursing
