"Fobbed off without appropriate examination within..."

About: The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust

After suffering several years of neck and shoulder pain I was sent for an MRI scan because physio has never worked, I gained new symptoms of numbness in my hands and left foot when I slept and right cheek paraesthesia. The results of the MRI was that I have nerves touching my spine due to scoliosis, Degenerative Disc Disease, osteoarthritis of the spine and have had serious trauma to T1 and T2 of the cervical spine from C2 to C7. There are multilevel disc dehydration (DDD) which should not be happen at my age. Anterior and posterior osteophytes was noted at the C3/4, C4/5 and C5/6 levels and spinal canal narrowing and cord indentation complexes at C4/5 and C5/6 I was then told I need an urgent referral to the Walton centre to see a neurosurgeon which has taken over 2 months to get. This is where everything went all wrong, I saw the neurosurgeon at the outpatients and they asked me to explain my problems to which I did, as soon as I had finished talking they told me I will not be getting an operation even when they have not even examined me or looked at my MRI results. They then checked my hands to see if I can feel sensation which is clearly obvious because I only get numbness in my hands and feet when lying down, I tried to explain this and also told them that my back is the main problem and its swollen but they never bothered to look at my swollen back. The specialist then showed me my MRI scan and said again that I am not getting an operation and they will refer me back to my doctor for physio to which I replied it does not work, had this treatment for several years and it’s never worked and that is why I was sent to the you (neurosurgeon). Then I asked about the nerves touching my spine and they will give me pain killers for that I said I was not happy because this has all been done before and I've not been able to go to the gym, work or do any physical exercise since October 2014, Reply, don't go to the gym, go swimming and don't worry about it as I will not need an operation for 5-10 years to which I said I don't want an operation when I'm too old. The Walton Centre of excellence in neurosurgery is a complete joke. There was no intention of looking into the matter because they said as soon as I had spoken that I am not getting an operation, it's not about care here, its about removing you from there list. They are not interested in sorting out your years of problems and do not listen unless you are paying for private healthcare. Do not waste your time here; you’ll be fobbed off back to your GP to deal with. Talk about passing the buck, the outpatients have excellence in that!
