Response from Lister Hospital

We're really sorry that your experience of the Lister's emergency department was not as good as we would have liked, but the main priority of the staff on duty will always be to prioritise those whose lives are in danger. It just takes a serious road traffic accident to mean that those with more minor injuries, whose lives are not in immediate danger, end up waiting longer than we would like. That's not an excuse, by the way, just a reason. We always advise that people with non-emergency conditions or illnesses should call NHS111 first (just dial 111 from your phone), where you can be advised about the best place to go to get the care you need. Sometimes that will be the Lister's emergency department, but sometimes it will be services elsewhere that although may mean a longer journey the waiting time will be a lot less. What we would be more than happy to follow up is your concern about the treatment you did get when your mother was seen finally - we can put you in touch with the emergency department's matron, who will discuss your concerns with you - all you need do is email us at generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net and we will pass your message on to her.
