"Outstanding care at the Western General breast unit"

About: Western General Hospital / Oncology

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with DCIS just over two years ago. It was a horrible shock and I needed extensive surgery - a mastectomy and reconstruction - which took a long time to fully recover from.

But I was and remain so grateful to all of the kind, compassionate and incredibly skilful people at the Western General who looked after me. The consultant, Oliver Young, took me through the whole process with real patience, sensitivity and exactly the right amount of humour. I am also grateful to Cameron Raine, who operated on me along with Mr Young, and to Laura McGuire, whose artistry with the tattoo pen put the cherry on the cake!

The whole team, in fact, were great. I felt very well cared for, and in the best possible hands.

My GPs at Leith Mount surgery have also been very good - both in getting me to the clinic ASAP when I showed up reporting a very slight change to the shape of one of my breasts, and in looking after me after the operation. I'm very grateful to them, too.

Hello

Thank you for sharing your experience of care and treatment in Breast Unit at the Western General Hospital.

I am very pleased to hear that you received compassionate and skilled care. I will make sure the staff you mention have sight of your comments and will also pass it on to the GPs at Leith Mount. I know they will all be very pleased to receive your kind feedback.

I hope you are now well recovered.

Best Wishes

Melanie
