"Staff made our visits more enjoyable"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Neurology (Brain, Spinal and Nerves)

(as a relative),

My mother has pretty much been hospitalised since April, in various wards both in NHS Garmapian and outside it. I’d like to commend the Neuro team on ward 205. (I had back surgery on this ward in 2013 - they were good then too! ) Nothing was too much trouble.

Knowing that I am an NHS employee too, they were always happy to let me pop in during my lunch hour or break. Being a working single parent to means I can’t always make it in the visiting times, but being able to pop across for 10 minutes during the day helped ease my mind.

They would often offer my daughter a drink or a biscuit if we happened to be in at tea time. She is inquisitive (this is all she’s known for the last few months) and they would often show/describe what they were doing even in HDU. Which made it less scary for her and our visits more enjoyable (and less stressful for me).

Please pass on my thanks to 205 as positive feedback is often in short supply in this organisation.

Dear FLG

Many thanks for posting your feedback on Patient Opinion. I will of course pass it on to the staff and managers of the ward and department. Your experience clearly shows how a more relaxed approach to visiting makes for a better experience for patients, carers and staff alike.

Hopefully staff reading this will be inspired to take the same approach.

Kind regards and thank you again.
