(as the patient),

What I liked

I liked the care given have no complaints about the staff. I also like the idea of being admitted on the day of ones operation.

What could be improved

The food. Meals were unappetising and cold with vegetables reduced to a pulp. I understand the food is not cooked on site which explains the lack of freshness. There was a report recently in the local press concerning food wastage. Much of this must be due to the fact that patients do not select their choice until the meals are brought round. This must result in food being wasted while other choices run out.

I would have thought the tried and tested method of placing your order the day before must result in less waste.

Pleased to hear you liked the idea of a same day admission for your operation. Apologies if the food wasn't up to scratch. Catering for 4,000 meals a day isn't always easy. Food waste (and complaints about food) have both fallen since we moved to the new system. Under the old system a meal would be ordered the day before but patients would change their mind overnight, or be transferred, or discharged home. That meant someone else got a meal they hadn't chosen.

The meals are now heated up in ward kitchens next to the wards (one kitchen per floor, per block) and that avoids the problem we had with meals being cold when they got from the one central kitchen in the basement to the wards on the top floors. We've passed your comments to the catering manager.
