"my daughter was treated extreamly ..."

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

my daughter was treated extreamly well from the moment we arrived at 11.00 in the morning untill she left recovery about 5.45. staff were very friendly and helpfull and she told me she was looked after by a lovely lady and nothing was to much trouble.

What could be improved

I on the other hand was left out in the cold. I went back to gissing ward several times to see if my daughter was back from surgery, but nobody seemed to know where she was. Then was told she was on her way up (nobody had been to collect her from recovery) I was told to wait in the day room and somebody would come and get me when they had settled her in the ward but half an hour later I went and found her my self. she asked for something to eat at 6.15, to be told they couldn't find anything for her to eat. At 9.45 a nurse brought her a cheese sandwich which was far from fresh. She was also told she would be able to go home the same day.I asked at 8.00 if she was going to be able to go home, to be told that they didn't really know. A doctor would have to come and see her. Finally at 10.05 that evening a young doctor came round looked at her said ' you look young, fit and healthy' you can go home you'll be fine. Not a mention of what after care she would need at all. I feel my daughter was let down by the after care, after she had such good care beforehand.

Thanks for taking the time to let us know about your experience and we are pleased to hear your daughter was treated extremely well. Apologies if staff did not keep you up to date on your daughter's progress. We are working to get more rapid assessment for discharge from doctors. In this country care following hospital treatment is normally the responsibiity of the family doctor but you can always contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service if you have questions or concerns.
