About: Southmead Hospital

Day patient operation went well - downside waiting 6 hours until the operation. Lack of signal for mobile phones in almost every area in the hospital made it difficult to keep in touch with family members who were worried and causing additional stress.

Dear Anonymous – I was pleased to hear your surgery went well and I hope that you are now well on the road to recovery. In order to allow for pre-operative preparations patients are asked to attend at 3 points during the day and their position on the operating list and the time they are sent to theatre sometimes changes depending on circumstance. I apologise if the staff did not keep you adequately informed, although the situation is often quite fluid staff should aim to keep patients fully informed. I regret that you found the mobile phone signals poor, I understand this does depend on the network people subscribe too. Thank you again for taking the time and trouble to provide your feedback. Kind regards – Steve Sykes Advice and Complaints Team
