"Most grateful"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Healthcare for Older People

(as the patient),

Recently following an early morning fall in the bathroom, I used my home call alarm and was promptly attended by two paramedics. After some conversation they called one of my friends who quickly came and I was taken onto the Acute Care of Elders Triage Unit at the RD&E (Wonford). Here I was very quickly (within 20 minutes) given a CT scan of my head which I had bumped in the fall and this was important as I take warfarin due to a mechanical aortic valve, implanted in 1995.

Subsequently blood samples were taken and an ECG checked, blood pressure checked standing and sitting. At all times we were treated with kindness and courtesy.

When the results from the blood samples came they indicated that I had low sodium, possibly due to a new drug tried to bring my blood pressure down. It is normally on the high side and this was tried as an alternative to increasing my dose of other medication. I was seen by Dr. Sword and discharged before mid-day with instructions to stop the new drug. A follow up letter came next day, with indication of further investigation of heart and bloods at the hospital, a copy was sent to my GP and I had a call from his secretary about making an appointment for further tests.

Everybody had responded with efficiency, kindness and courtesy and I am most grateful. Thank You.
