"Ward 21"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

A little bit more compassion is needed by a sister. Having an operation is a traumatic experience and need not be enhanced by the flippant attitude of certain members of staff. I found them very patronising to their trainees both in front of me and other patients, which is something you don't want to hear when trying to recover. A nurse and a trainee were very sweet and caring and an acalade to your hospital. While I was in theatre my mother and husband were trying to find out what was going on but the nurses on the ward would not give any information or reassurance about progress. They therefore got into an unnecessary state of mind worrying about me. I was forced to get out of my bed at 7 o'clock in the morning which I really didn't feel up to and wait 4 hours for the doctor to visit and after speaking to other patients I know I am not the only person to feel like this. I was treated in the RVI just 1 month earlier and I feel that they are much more compassionate and organised towards a patients needs.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review for the hospital, and we're sorry that you didn't have an all positive experience. We'll pass along your feedback to the matrons for this area and we can use your feedback to try and improve the experience of other patients.
